Trivial perhaps for those w/expertise not trivial for laypersons w/out expertise. We still don't have a safe recipe from my POV because such a recipe at minimum should include ratings for the components, possible hazards in detail, etc. OP, I would suggest that next time you ask about a circuit like this, on a forum like this, before building it and/or recommending it to others. for those, like me and like the OP, who really don't have the expertise to know. That calls for at least making some effort to research a circuit involving mains or high voltage before assuming it's safe - esp. ratings for the diodes could make a difference? Also if you're going to do the diodes, from what I read there may be better/worse ways to implement it - e.g. If I was bothered by ground loop hum, I would look into it & choose what I thought was the best solution - not just the cheapest solution. So in conclusion if you're trying to diagnose if a "humx" will solve your problems, the circuit I posted works well, and is certainly better than snapping off the ground pin!!! If it works for your situation, put together one using the circuit you posted. Still much better than spending $70, especially since as you know ground issues can be tricky to solve (even for people with lots of experience), and most folks who buy these aren't 100% sure their problems will be solved with one of these. There is a chance that a diode fails, but you would hear the ground loop return indicating the circuit failed.Įven in the example you posted, which is definitely a better circuit (I'll edit the op that if someone is looking for a long term use, or for valuable equipment, they should use the circuit you linked), we're up to a whopping $8 of electronics. That being said, I've used the above (the one that I posted) and it works well. I've studied enough electronics to say confidently, I'm NOT a qualified technician!!! Hello, I very much appreciate you posting this.
